dating a northern guy

Why are the Northerners handsome and manly, but the Southerners look like a bunch of ponces? I think being from the North northern guys are more masculine and. This is what amazes me about dating in NYC. Northern guys here, in the main, but certainly not all, drink pints of beer, usually what is. I haven't had a lot of success dating in the Northern states. Have any other guys/girls had success dating across the North and South? dating a northern guy

There is something about the way Southern men treat a lady that really gets me going (in a good way). It's like they just understand us better. They don't get all pissy on you when you cry, they think most of the stupid things you do are cute, and they are very good at teasing you till you are so hot under the collar you could just die! The southern guys I have dated have all just been fun to be around. I'm not saying they are better, as they obviously have negative qualities too. One is that they tend to disappear without explanation if they're not interested, while Midwesterners tend to be a bit more up front about it, dating a northern guy. But for my particular personality, it can be a nice match, dating a northern guy. I like having the door held open. I like feeling like I can be a lady and I don't have to be tough or worry about being seen as weak. I like how easy going they are with their laughs and smiles. I like the pet names. Sometimes I am Southern inside

[GASP] Oh no. Dare I?

Yes Mam sure thing. Southern men are much different than Dating a northern guy men. One of the reasons that I can't be with a Southern man very easily is because I'm so forward & not exactly the traditional "lady." I think it would be easier for open relationship dating to be with a . get ready . NEW YORKER than a Southerner. The only reason I say that is because Northern men like the tough no nonsense women, where as Southern men are raised to marry a traditional propper perky "lady." Although, Southern men are usually a lot more down to earth than Northern men, dating a northern guy. That's where the phrase "Down home Southern charm" comes from. I ain't got any of that Southern charm either.

I don't wear highheals or skirts, I don't eat like a bird & chew with little fine pecks, I don't tease & fluf up my hair for a half an hour, I don't spray any of that fine perfume, etc. Those are the women Southern men are generally used to. The South is still, in most places, dating a northern guy, very old fassion.

There's the difference.

Jessie

The only difference is the accents. All this talk of men and dating a northern guy from different regions is overrated. There are trashy men from all over the country and their dating a northern guy classy men dating a northern guy all over the country. You can find possessive and controlling men in Idaho just as easily as Georgia. When you come down to it, they want the same basic things in a woman regardless if they are from Alabama or New York.

There are some cultural differences but I think you will find good men and bad men anywhere. A friend of mine is on her 3rd marriage. First two men were northerners. The last hubby is from the deep south. She met this last man online and after a year of online dating she packed up all her kids and moved to AL to be with him. My friend bragged this man was like no other man she had ever met before and she would brag how southern men were different. He was romantic, a charmer and so on. 3 years later the relationship is more abusive than any of her previous relationships. This man dating a northern guy far more controlling than anyone she had ever met. He weighs over 300 lbs but will constantly harp on my friend's weigh. He treats her children badly destroying their self esteem. I barely recognize my friend anymore. She is so passive, dating a northern guy, insecure and unhappy. So like I said, I think there are good and bad men everywhere.

1. They'll call you posh. You don't even have to live in a detached house, have a double-barreled surname or possess any kind of title and they'll still call you posh. Call it cultural differences.

2. They'll take the piss out of the way you say 'bath'. You'll take the piss out of the way they skip out vowels from words like dating a northern guy and 'the', dating a northern guy. It's a vicious cycle.

3. You'll learn to eat gravy on everything. When they're cooking, anyway. And you'll actually grow to quite like it.

Giphy

4. They'll ask you out for 'tea' and you'll turn up thinking scones, finger sandwiches and quaint little china teapots. You won't get that.

5. You'll ask them out for 'dinner' and they'll text dating beautiful women at 1.30pm asking you where the bloody hell you are.

6. They'll have no sympathy for you when you complain about being cold. While you're freezing your tits off wearing a ski jacket on your romantic winter walk, they'll be there in a t-shirt telling you to stop being such a wimp.

Giphy

7. It'll take a while to get used to what they're saying, dating a northern guy. Brew, barm, mardy, cob? They talk in riddles.

8. Dating a northern guy fight over what TV soap you watch. They'll want Corrie but you'll want EastEnders, obviously. You're both such stereotypes.

Giphy

10. But after a while you'll start saying hi to passers by and telling shop assistants to have a nice day, and your home friends will think you've gone mad because why are you talking to people you don't know?

11. You'll get highly excited at the prospect of going back home with them for a weekend because to you it's basically a country retreat and people pay good money for that kind of thing.

12. You'll probably invest in a pair of wellies for the occasion, but will be disappointed to learn they have concrete roads in the north, too.

BBC

13. You'll get back home with them and realise you're going to have to spend the whole weekend listening really hard, dating a northern guy. You think their accent's strong down south? It only goes up a gear when in the company of other northerners.

14. They'll take you t' pub in their village and you'll have to ask the barman to repeat himself when he tells you how much it is for two points because it's SO CHEAP.

15. They'll drink an unbelievable amount of tea. And they'll look at you in disgust if you dare buy anything other than the Yorkshire variety. Even if they're from Lancashire.

16. Contrary to belief, you'll learn that not all northern men dress like Zak Dingle off Emmerdale.

Rex

It's a relief.

Like I've mentioned before, I have a few friends who are looking for a man. It's not an easy task, what with younger women moving up through the ranks all the time. But at least, I figured, dating a northern guy, my friends don't have to compete against the occasional Yankee woman who ends up here since Southern men prefer Southern women. Or so I thought.

As my friend and I were walking recently, I raised the question, dating a northern guy. "Would a Southern man ever want to date a woman with a Northern accent?" I was expecting a loud "No!" but her response surprised me. She said, "Well, I think it depends on her body. If she looks good enough, I don't think they'd mind her accent." I hadn't thought of that and was taken aback by her insightfulness into the treacherous male mind.

Since she was in a talking mood, I kept her going.

"Do you think Southern women are different from Dating a northern guy women?"

"Well, we serve sweet tea and they don't," she reasoned. "And we definitely have nice manners down here. It's taught. It's ingrained. We know how to put on a luncheon and write our thank-you notes. We like to dress up and do our hair and makeup, dating a northern guy. I don't know that many Northern women, but my husband works with a lot of Northern women, dating a northern guy. I don't know if he would make that distinction."

This afternoon I ran into a middle-aged local guy.

"If you were single, would you be turned off by woman with a Northern accent?" I asked.

He looked a like a deer in the headlights for a second, but then recovered. A Northern accent wouldn't be a total deal-killer, he said, but it would raise a red flag. He'd be more comfortable with a Southern accent, since that would probably reflect his own values. But he wouldn't want a syrupy Southern accent — that would be a turn-off.

To the untrained Northern ear, all Southerners might sound alike. But au contraire! There are many strains: the Tennessee twang, the old Charleston and the Georgia peach. There are differences between all the Southern states and even differences within the states. There are different Northern accents too, like the Boston "Pahk yaw cah at Havahd yad," the Wisconsin "dem" instead of "them," and "waaht" in New York instead of "water."

One morning a few years ago, Mark and Kim got onto the subject of accents on their radio show. Mark, being from somewhere up North, doesn't have a Southern accent. Kim, being from Halls (I believe) does. For a while they bantered back and forth about which accents were best and then Mark took a stand: Northern accents are a turn-on.

"What?!" I thought, dating a northern guy, careering onto the interstate. "Really? Are you serious?"

I was in Turkey Creek the other day when the memory of Mark and Kim rose up from the past. A young lady at a store there is from way up north. She's been here dating a northern guy years and hasn't lost her Northern accent yet. Actually, she seemed proud of that fact. She wasn't real talkative, dating a northern guy, and our conversation had been like a light sprinkle, not the satisfying downpour I was craving. After coming at her from a number of conversational angles, I finally broke the dam loose and got a flood.

"Do you think there are any differences between Northerners and Southerners?" I asked innocently.

"Oh yeah!" she said, jumping on the subject like a chicken on a junebug. "Well, for one thing, people automatically think I'm rude no matter what I say because of my accent."

"Huh!" I thought. "That's not fair."

"And I didn't know sarcasm was bad till I moved here."

She had me stumped with this one, because I always get sarcasm and insults confused. I know they're supposed to be different, but I can never remember sarcasm's definition. Oh… here it is…sarcasm: "the use of irony to mock or convey contempt"…sounds like an insult to me.

But then we got down to the nitty-gritty.

"Up Dating a northern guy, if somebody doesn't like you, you know it. Down here, they'll be nice to your face, but as soon as you walk away, they'll tear you to shreds."

All this talk of Northern and Southern women has made me think of the great Louis Grizzard, a columnist from way back. I found this passage dating a northern guy his book, "They Tore My Heart Out and Stomped That Dating a northern guy Flat," available as an ebook for just $6.13.

"My second wife left me when we were living in Chicago," he wrote. "I had no alternative but to attempt to have dates with Northern women. Since I am a native Georgian, I had never been out with Northern women before. There are some distinct differences between Northern women and Southern women, dating a northern guy. Southern women make better cooks than Northern women. Northern women make good cooks only if you like to eat things that still have their eyes, cooked in a big pot with asparagus…Southern women aren't as mean as Northern women, either. Both bear watching closely, but a Southern woman will forgive you two or three times more than a Northern dating a northern guy before she will pull a knife on you."

So all you men out there who are married to Southern women should be thankful. And sleep easier tonight.

Though I've lived in New York for five years and consider myself some sort of a hybrid of the East Coast, the truth is: I'm a born and raised Southerner.

I may not have an accent (sorry, dudes, I know it's apparently sexy) and I take my tea unsweetened, but when it comes to chivalry and the importance of gestures in dating, my North Carolina roots always shine through.

If you're lucky enough to be graced with the presence of a Southern lady, here's a few things you need to know about dating these so-called belles (ahem, dating a northern guy, never call me that):

1, dating a northern guy. We don't mind a little dirt.

I grew up next to a farm where I happily retrieved eggs from the hens for my neighbor every day after school. My dad taught me to drive a tractor when I was 1-year-old, and I learned how to ride a bike on a gravel road (I have the scars on my knee to prove it).

I spent more time outside than inside, and though I might rock stilettos and Calvin Klein dresses, I don't mind a little dirt.

    2. We need you to open doors.

I make a decent living and I'm rather independent (almost to a fault), so I don't expect to be dating a northern guy care of, especially by someone I just met. Even so, I grew up around gentlemen who didn't think twice about extending their hand to help me get out of a car or stepping aside to let me walk first.

When I'm down South I never open my own door, dating a northern guy. So if we're out and you don't do that, Lord knows I'm going to notice.

    giphy

    3. It's rude to call me a Southern Belle.

Some ladies don't mind, and that's just fine . but I do. The origin of the term dates back to the plantation era in the deep South. Southern Belles were upper class and often had slaves to tend to them.

I vote democratically and believe in same-sex marriage, so anything that paints me in a prejudiced light . well, that's a turn-off. You can just call me Lindsay, okay, y'all?

    4. Frankly, my dear, we do give a damn.

There's this misconception about Southern women that we're all sugar and spice. While my friends from NYC will say I'm one of the sweetest people they've met (that's true), all Southern women I know and love are incredibly sassy.

We aren't afraid to speak our mind and say what we want. Why? We know we're worth it.

    5. We're looking for a simple kind of love.

When I visit my hometown, there's nothing I look forward to more than a glass of wine on our big, wrap-around porch at sunset, dating a northern guy, while I watch the fireflies come out and hear the tree frogs start to sing.

I'm calmed and soothed by the simplest of things, and being able to just relax outside with someone on a hot summer day? Well, that's gravy.

    tumblr

    6. We like being barefoot . all the time.

Like at the office, or at home, or when I have to walk downstairs in my building to do laundry. Get used to me never wearing shoes, unless I have to.

    tumblr

    7. Our idea of a great second date is a picnic.

Of all the things I miss about big open green spaces, it's being outside in the warm Southern summer sun. If you want to impress me (duh), plan something that's part of nature and I might just be smoother than my grandmother's homemade grits.

    tumblr

    8. Hey! Southern doesn't mean dumb, dating a northern guy, buddy.

Far from it, actually. And if you try to patronize me, talk down to me or treat me like a doll to hang in your china cabinet, you will quickly experience the temper that comes from a Southern family.

    tumblr

    9. A sailor's mouth won't go a long way with us.

Do I care if you slip a curse word every once in a while when you're upset or it fits the mood? Nope. But if you throw one into every other word, I might start to wonder if we're a match.

I was raised to have manners, be polite and watch my language, so I'd like you to follow suit, dating a northern guy. Please and thanks.

    tumblr

    10. Don't hate on the country music.

You might just like my "Carolina Vibe" playlist I have on Spotify. I listen to it when I miss home. It also sometimes gets me in the mood. (Pssst: that means put on some country when I'm feeling down and you get major brownie points!)
