More than just a dating app, Tinder has been updated to become one of the most engaging, fun, and social apps around. Of course, finding matches is still a huge highlight—but with smart group chats, an awesome Apple TV app, and Super Likes to go around, we’re swiping right on this one.
It’s all about money and no results
The apps prices have significantly went up for the premium services than what they used to be and a bit more ridiculously priced from other apps. Like now you can’t see who’s swiped on you unless you have the gold service when it used to be on the plus service which plus practically serves no purpose and even now with having the gold service even though I can see who swipes on me it’s as if I don’t get any swipes because the app keeps promoting for you to buy boosts and I used the one free boost and got tons of swipes! But now not using boost and not wanting to pay for boost I get like 10 swipes a day and I’ve only had gold membership for a week now and I do swipe on other people as well and can see who is still in the que for who I have swiped on and it seems as though tinder isn’t showing me in their swipe stacks because I would of guessed those people to of swiped yes or no on me by now. The experience on here in general has been worst than it has in the past. As far as dating apps go Tinder has significantly went down and I would say try else where unless you want to spend a lot of money for no results and am already regretting my decision and it has been a huge waste of money. In the past it wasn’t that big of a deal because it was decently priced but now it costs a lot more for it to actually be considered a huge waste. After my subscription ends I’m for sure never downloading this app again.
Oh boy
Just recently got out of a relationship and decided to dive back into the dating app world, and all I have to say is wow. Tinder has really slipped. What used to be a brilliantly simple and effective dating app has turned into a frustrating, convoluted, pay-walled mess. For Tinder to be even remotely useful, you have to pay for it. And once you do, you’re allowed features that are literally free on other apps. Wanna see who likes you? You’re going to have to pay more a month than you do on a Netflix subscription for that. Btw, Hinge does that for free. Wanna leave a comment on someone’s picture? Surely you can do that with the Gold membership, right? Nope. Gotta shell out even more money for ~platinum~. Guess who also does it for free? You got it. Hinge (and I think OKC too). And even after emptying your wallet on one of their higher subscription tiers, you still only get one boost a week, and you’re still hounded with pop ups every 10 minutes to try out their creepiest feature - the super like. All of this on top of the inherent dating app negatives (ghosting, catfishing, creeps, excessive filters, etc) and you’re in for a miserable ride. Save yourself the stress and money and try literally any app other than Tinder. Or just go to a bar. You’ll spend about the same amount of money but at the very least you’ll get a good buzz.

The best two words to describe Badoo would be casual and quirky. With some unique matching features and ways to communicate, it takes a spin on the traditional dating app to something that could be refreshing.
BLK
Owned by the powerful Match Group (owners of apps like Match.com and Tinder), BLK is a free dating app designed for black singles. Available via iOS and Android, BLK has a fairly large user base designed to help match singles. The app follows a freemium model giving you the basic functionality at no cost but you have the option to buy add-ons to enhance the experience. User reviews do mention a high prevalence of spam/fake profiles, but that’s probably to be expected from a platform that is 100% free to join.
Grindr
Billed as the world’s largest social network for gay, bi, trans, and queer people, Grindr is most notably known as the leading app for gay men on the market. While there are some fringe user reports of finding more serious relationships on the app, Grindr is generally known for being a more casual (sometimes a hookup) focused app. If you’re looking for something a little bit more serious, Grindr might not be the ideal option for you. Raya
One of the most exclusive and elite dating apps out there is Raya. The app got famous as it’s billed as the spot where celebrities and the rich go to meet and find love (and that is, in fact, what it actually is). What’s interesting is the Raya app is extremely inexpensive (under $10 a month), but getting in is the hard part. You sign up, get on the waiting list, and join the other over 100k people waiting to hopefully get approved or invited in by an existing member. Probably not an ideal option for us “normal folk,” but still unique enough to include and take a look at.
Happn
If you’re old enough to remember the Missed Connections on Craigslist, then you already understand the premise behind Happn. The swipe style app doesn’t just search in a radius around you, but instead, it pulls any members you pass by or physically cross paths with into your queue. If there’s a mutual match, a conversation is unlocked. So if you walk past a cute guy or gal in the grocery store and they happen to be a Happn member, they’ll get added to your list of potential matches. The app has good reviews in heavily populated areas and not so great in more rural areas—for obvious reasons.
Black People Meet
Also falling under the flag of Match Group is Black People Meet (the company’s second dating app for black people along with BLK). With a more traditional feel and matching process than the BLK app, Black People Meet is a nice way for black singles to connect with other black singles interested in finding love. Two of the major perks of this dating app over its sister app BLK are the longer track record of success and the requirement for users to pay for an account, which cuts down significantly on spam and fake profiles.
Asian Dating
With over 4.5 million members located in the US and Asian countries primarily (though there are members all around the globe), Asian Dating is easily the leader when it comes to niche dating apps for Asian singles. Backed by the Cupid Media brand, the site follows the same affordable and simplistic approach to matchmaking. User reviews tend to be big fans of the highly customizable profiles and the very traditional (what you’re used to) approach to online dating.
WooPlus
Whether you classify yourself as curvy, a BBW, or just more to love, there is now a dating app specifically for you. WooPlus is one of the leaders when it comes to plus-size dating. With just under half a million users, this newer dating app has created an inclusive community for curvy men and women to meet, connect, and find love.
