Men dating younger women reddit

men dating younger women reddit

A recent study found men were more likely than women to seek help on as was the Reddit sample, as those users tend to be male, younger. Not many women on my way from my room to a kitchen and back. I usually date girls casually for a month or so then find someone new. When it comes to dating, there's always been a double standard about age gaps. An older man who dates a much younger woman is often.

Men dating younger women reddit - remarkable, rather

“We met at the gym, but it took three years or so to connect romantically. I was a coach and would not have asked her out, but fortunately she doesn’t share my moral code [and asked me out].” —Nathan, 49, 14 years older than his partner

“We met at a wedding; we always say that we never would’ve matched on a dating app because we wouldn’t have even been in each other’s age brackets and our interests would’ve been completely different.” —Emma, 26, 11 years younger than her boyfriend

“We met on Fetlife.” —Sean, 35, 14 years older than his partner

Did you know that there was an age difference right away?

“The first time I saw him, I thought, ‘old guy.’ But it's funny how when you get to know someone well, those first impressions about outer appearances can change.” —Lila

“Yes. That’s one of the reasons I would not have asked her out. That and I thought she might be a Republican. She’s not.” —Nathan

Do you feel like you are in or have been in different places in your lives?

“The age gap becomes most obvious when dealing with our parents. His parents are going through some of the typical aging complications, and his father has advanced dementia. My parents are closer in age to my husband and still in pretty good health. My father watches my kids two days per week and they are actively traveling, working on their house, participating in social events, and generally acting like people with an empty nest.” —Ashley

“In some ways. She’s killing it in her career right now, and I’m looking for a second act career-wise. Turns out that second act will be stay-at-home dad for a while. But with a kid on the way, we are very much thrust into the exact same place in our lives. That is lovely. —Nathan

“Our differences appear when we’re with our friends. When it’s just the two of us, the age difference is not apparent in any way.” —Nicole, 43, 16 years younger than her husband

“There’s a big difference between what I do for fun—social media, coffee shops—and what he does: a bowling league and a dart league, I shit you not. Sometimes, he tries to give me advice because ‘he’s been through it.’ I’m not super crazy about that, as it does make the age gap seem a lot bigger.” —Nina, 26, nine years younger than her boyfriend

Do other people make comments about the age gap? Does it bother you guys?

“My husband acts like he's in his 30s (in a positive way!) and doesn't look particularly old, so most people don't realize there's an age difference until it's pointed out to them. It doesn't bother either of us and we're usually the first ones to make jokes about it.” —Ashley

“A few people made age comments over the years, usually by mistaking him for my father, which was embarrassing, but more for them than me or Dennis. I didn't care. We enjoyed raising kids together, and while his age slowed him down earlier than other dads, he was more nurturing and loving with our boys when they were very young.” —Lila

For a long time, Jenny thought she was to blame for men treating her badly.

"I've often believed I have to change, and accept whatever is thrown my way," the year-old says.

Discovering the subreddit Female Dating Strategy (FDS) helped her take control of her love life.

"When I first started reading the posts on FDS, I felt very empowered.

"Being able to connect with other women on the forum helped me understand that I subconsciously seek out guys who are not right for me."

The female-only forum on social media platform Reddit has , subscribers and describes itself as a place to discuss effective dating strategies for women.

That's a strong subscriber base considering all members are women and Reddit is a male-dominated space, says Dr Emily van der Nagel, a lecturer in social media at Monash University.

She says the easiest way to understand FDS is to think of it as a reaction to the phenomenon of 'pick-up artistry'.

"The pick-up artist mindset and goal is really to turn the pursuit of women into a game — assuming it has specific rules and women behave in certain ways that are ripe for exploitation.

"FDS feeds into that model. It treats dating and relationships as a game."

While it's helped Jenny stop settling for toxic men, FDS's entrenched ideologies mean it's not a safe space for everyone.

What is Female Dating Strategy?

Female Dating Strategy encourages women to "level-up" and seek a "high-value man" who will treat them like a queen.

"We discuss how to maintain a healthy relationship that benefits you," the bio states.

Subscribers are encouraged to read the FDS Handbook before posting, and are warned any posts contradicting the group's ideology will be removed.

That's typical for a successful subreddit, explains Dr van der Nagel, who says they benefit from being specific about what is allowed. (People will upvote relevant content and downvote that which is irrelevant.)

Some of the group's principles include:

  • Being a "high value" woman — one who doesn't revolve her life around men, with her own career and hobbies;
  • Letting men do the chasing. A man's role is to be the pursuer, the one to convince you that he's the right man for you. As a woman, you don't have to prove yourself to him;
  • Not having sex before commitment has been established.

Other themes that hint at the subreddit's sexually conservative nature include disapproval of consensual BDSM and watching porn.

"The idea is it's geared towards women who are seeking healthy relationships — and that sounds like a positive thing," says Dr van der Nagel.

But she says it's a valid criticism the group is only advancing a specific version of female dating.

"This is a subreddit that has a limited perspective on what women want, how they work and what their goals and aims are.

"It is a space for monogamy and heteronormativity. It's not queer-friendly.

"It doesn't leave any room for women who do want to sleep around — which is a perfectly fine way to approach dating if you are a woman whose enjoyment of dating comes from casual hooks-ups with men or other women."

Jenny says while she doesn't agree with all of FDS's beliefs, it has helped shift her perspective about men.

"While I do consider myself a modern, feminist woman, I can't say the modern approach of taking the initiative of asking out a guy has always worked out for me.

"[FDS] helped me realise that a lot of men are still hard-wired to love the chase and don't always respect women who are easy to win over by taking control.

"Men want to feel as if they have to work to earn your love and if they aren't treating you in line with your standards from the very beginning, they never will."

Should dating be considered a game?

Dr van der Nagel says FDS is trying to "beat the boys at their own game".

Whether that's a good thing or not will depend on your personal view.

Ruth Sowter is a sex, love and relationship coach in Melbourne.

She says women attracted to Female Dating Strategy have likely had bad dating experiences in the past.

"It's a human tendency to want to protect ourselves, and understand how to relate to people.

"We want to date in a way that's safe and [where] we're treated well, but movements [like FDS] really suck in vulnerable and angry people, and they kind of fuel those feelings."

She says it's OK to treat dating as a game, as long as it's fun and kind.

"It should be fun and playful. The energy you put in is the energy you will get back.

"When it becomes a survival game, then that's a negative scenario."

Advice for using FDS

Jenny says in her experience, you don't have to fully agree with everything in the FDS handbook to still benefit from it.

"I consider myself to be a woman who is currently not looking for anything serious and should the opportunity arise, I am open towards having a one-night stand or a friends-with-benefits."

Ms Sowter says if you are going to dive into FDS, try to just take away what works for you.

"Some of the stuff about attachment styles and trauma is useful and powerful info.

"It might be one of those things, taking what works for you and leaving the rest."

She also recommends trying a bunch of different things when it comes to dating.

"It's easy to go down one path — but a good rule of thumb to learn more dating skills is to mix it up."

Dr van der Nagel says there are a lot of positive stories on FDS such as "My ex used to do this and made me feel awful, but now I have a high-value man and he is respectful".

"It reflects very traditional gender roles, but if I was actively searching for positive, the general message of 'You are a queen, you deserve a high-value man', if that's what it takes for her to get that, that could be a good thing."

Men confess: 22 reasons why younger guys fall for older women

Jason Momoa and wife Lisa Bonet made headlines last week when Momoa recalled how he was a "nervous wreck" when he initially asked Bonet out on a date. Momoa was just 26 years old at the time, and approaching Bonet, who is 12 years his senior, was intimidating.

“ When you meet someone you’re completely infatuated with and then find out she’s amazing, intelligent, and funny and she’s a goddess and you’re a degenerate,” he told Men's Health. Momoa worked up the nerve and the two have been together since.

What is it about older women? It still seems more common for men to seek out younger women, but one of TODAY's most-read stories continues to be this post on why younger men fall for older women. We've celebrated the long-term relationships between actor Hugh Jackman, who is 13 years younger than wife Deborra-Lee Furness. Then there's French President Emmanuel Macron, and his wife Brigitte, who is 24 years older.

But it's not only younger famous men who understand the attraction to mature women.

In "Older Women, Younger Men: New Options for Love and Romance," authors Felicia Brings and Susan Winter interviewed more than men to discover the allure of the so-called "Mrs. Robinson syndrome." You'll be surprised at what men find appealing about older women.

"I'd do it again? Definitely, no question. Oh yeah, and once you've done it, you definitely look at older women in another way."—Nick, 33

We've made our position known and shared the thoughts and experiences of the women to whom we talked. Now it's time to let the men speak for themselves. One important question we asked was what they felt an older woman has to offer. Here are some answers which are clear, articulate and to the point. Their sentiments represent a very large proportion of the opinions we heard expressed.

"I met Karolina at a party given by some friends. When I saw her, I thought she was just the perfect woman for me and I was sure about that. I wasn't looking for an older woman and Karolina wasn't looking for a younger man, but it just happened. (I was 39 and she was 55 then.) Our relationship is unique, because it's not just built on sex, but on trust, respect and love. We are both morning people and nearly always in a good mood. We are both hard-working with many hobbies in common. In my opinion, age has nothing to do with our relationship. In our twenty-five years together, we have never had a serious problem and we are still very happy."—Paolo, 64

"Pat is very special. Not only is she beautiful, but she has a wonderful sense of humor and is very giving. The ability to talk about anything with her was refreshing and engaging. In fact, when I first met her, I didn't know I was attracted to an 'older' woman. I knew she was older than I, but I didn't realize the disparity in age until she told me (which didn't happen until a couple of dates into our relationship). Pat offered me space, devotion and herself, which I couldn't find in anyone else. I take better care of myself now. She is a best friend who reflects back to me what a good person I am, which builds my confidence and self-esteem. I now have a better job and feel better about myself than ever before."—Neil, 35

Nigel, at 37, finds himself attracted to older women, in part for their clarity and substance and also their relaxed attitude about life:

"I find that I'm attracted to a woman who has some degree of self-possession. I like the stimulation of a sharp intellect. I enjoy sitting down to dinner with someone who has a level of conversation I can appreciate and enjoy. I think younger women are sometimes too focused on starting families and that is rarely an issue with older women. I've always had relationships with older women. They know themselves. They have so much more to offer and they are looking for different things. They are not just looking for guys who will be good fathers and providers. Older women can be more playful. They are more relaxed. It's really a personality thing for me regarding what is attractive. I enjoy a confident attitude and older women definitely have the upper hand in that area."

Dan, age 24, also expressed a similar theme:

"When I meet a woman over 30, she's usually very clear and focused. She knows what she wants in life and it makes being with her so much easier. I look at a lot of my friends who have girlfriends their age and younger and the problems they have strike me as ridiculous. They frequently act foolish and immature. I don't have time for that behavior—that's why I like mature women."

That life experience is sexy was also a repeated theme:

"Just the fact that there's so much to learn from an older woman, that they have so many more life experiences to draw upon, is an adventure to me. It's like a rush."—Vincent, 31

Some young men saw themselves reflected back in an older woman and realized the woman's own specialness:

"She was very beautiful and caring and we had similar interests. She offered me the opportunity to see another perspective on a lot of different issues. I mean, older women think differently on certain issues and they've got more experience. I grew up a lot with her. Yeah, definitely, she helped me to grow up. She made me realize how important I could be in making someone else happy. Not that I was doing it for her, but just being with her."—Art, 27

Fred, age 28, told us what qualities attracted him to older women: "The experiences in life that they've had make them more grounded and realistic."

When asked what a mature woman offered him that he couldn't find in a younger woman, Fred answered: "Emotional stability. Need I say more? There have been nothing but positives in my relationships with two older women. They were able to see things in me that I could not see in myself. Also, there were levels of honesty unlike anything I've experienced even with best friends."

Fred gave us a wealth of information over several interviews. Open, upbeat and extremely handsome, he revealed the enormous love and respect he shared with his former partner and now shares with his current partner.

Fred's first older-woman experience occurred when he was 21 years old and Gretchen was They lived together for two years. They are both still very close and see each other regularly. Not only did they have a tremendous friendship as the basis of their relationship, but an extraordinary sex life as well. Recently, this woman underwent major surgery and it was her ex-boyfriend Fred, not the woman's current older boyfriend, who was by her side. Gretchen, now 44, was involved with a man of 51 and he was simply too busy with work and personal commitments to be available when she really needed him. It was Fred who visited her on a regular basis and saw to it that she had what she needed during her recuperation.

After his relationship with Gretchen ended, Fred tried dating girls in their early 20s. He explained, often quite humorously, how ridiculous he felt trying to have meaningful conversation over blaring music at a dance club. His brief experimentation with younger females only reaped endless head games, confusion and immature behavior. Resolutely, Fred abandoned the "young woman trial period." He knew he liked older women and that was his standard. He decided this time to accept it.

His next relationship was with Marla, a co-worker. They were great friends and then she began to pursue him. Why not? he thought. She was older. Maybe it would work. But Marla's flaw seemed to be that she was only five years older — and for Fred, that still wasn't enough to produce the kind of emotional maturity and depth for which he searched.

After a year or so of taking a "time-out," Fred met Lynne. She is 10 years older. Fred's respect and appreciation of older women was clear when he spoke:

"The way mature women carry themselves shows they know who they are. It equates to stability. They've already figured out who they are. Maybe not all the time, but a lot more often than younger women. They are all-around much more attractive to me.

"Also, they are much more experienced with life. You know this is the kind of person who's going to tell you exactly what they want and they are more sure of themselves than the people my age or younger. Older women are much more well rounded — they know what they feel and why they feel it.

"It's easier to have a relationship with an older woman, because she knows how to communicate what she wants. It has a snowball effect all the way around.

"I have a preference for women starting at about 10 years older than myself and up. It's adventurous for both of us, because it's a whole new exciting journey. Younger women just don't allow me to grow in the ways older women do."

Not all older woman/younger man relationships last forever, but Fred's answer to how he handled the ending of his relationship with an older woman was especially insightful: "I went on with my life and took with me many memories and experiences that made me mentally and emotionally rich. I considered it a hell of a jump start on life."

Certainly, there are challenges for the men as well as the women in these relationships. For example, the issue of having or not having children came up repeatedly:

"My first relationship with an older woman — I was 20 and she was 36 — lasted two and a half years. My second — I was 28 and she was 41 — lasted three years and we lived together for one year. The main thing that attracted me was the overall calm of an older woman. There is a frenetic energy with a younger woman that can be very exciting and very cute, but not for my personality. Neither of my relationships was about being mothered. Both women were professionals, very focused on their work lives and extremely confident and sure of themselves. That was very attractive to me."—Lenny, 38

Ultimately, Lenny's last relationship ended when he wanted children and his partner of 43 did not.

Of course, the issue of "Will I want children later on?" has become a less significant challenge to a relationship between older women and younger men than it has been in the past. In vitro fertilization by donor eggs and other reproductive methods have greatly changed the fertility prognosis for older women. Pregnancy at ages once reserved for "miracles" is now a medical possibility.

Other challenges for the younger men occurred in the form of disapproval and criticism from friends and colleagues similar, although not as severe, to what the older women experienced.

"I got more of a reaction from men than women. The men my age and older were jealous that I was with her. They would look at me as if I had something they wanted and didn't have and, because I was younger, they reacted more strongly. And women my age disapproved of the relationship.

"Every morning, I would wake up happy and feel like I had the world on a string. I guess some of these people thought I was trying to prove something — I wasn't. Our relationship just made me feel great. She was great! I was proud of who she was and what we had together."—Barry, 26

Overall, however, it seems that such criticism is not as big an obstacle for men in these relationships as for women. In fact, some men received support and admiration from peers and co-workers.

"Friends and colleagues all admired my decision to have a relationship with a mature woman. They respected what I had with her, which was an emotional connection with an experienced, centered person. Most people's reactions have been good. There have been no negative attitudes or comments given to me that stick out in my head. Actually, many people have asked my partner and me for advice."—Patrick, 34

Sex with an older woman

The men to whom we talked spoke about the advantages of being in relationships with older women in terms of the serenity and comfort, the growth opportunity and the honesty they were afforded. But more than any other advantage, they talked about the positive sexual relationships they experienced. They all commented that sex with older women was better.

"Negatives? What negatives? I cried, I laughed, I went back for more. The advantages can be summed up in two words: intense marathon."—Zach, 32

"Advantages of having sex with an older woman? Are you kidding? An older woman is more sure of herself and brings that to the relationship. She knows what she wants and how to communicate that to her partner. I like not having to worry about pregnancy and an unwanted child. I do not feel the desire to have one and the lack of anxiety over that issue is relieving. Lisa is also in her prime and we have the most intense sexual relations I have ever had."—Gary, 39

"The biggest advantage is that they know what they want so there's no guesswork. You may try to please them and they'll tell you if it isn't working. I loved it. That's a turn on. Absolutely no negatives about sex? it was the best. The best!"—Scott, 25

"Phenomenal! The sex was important — but I was really concerned about what she needed and desired. She would take over and go from there. It made things a hell of a lot easier, because we were just there to have fun. It was like breaking through a major barrier that takes other people forever to figure out. There was a 'click' sexually. It was easy and it was great!"—Russ, 29

"If I look at a girl in her 20s, I might find her attractive, but thoughts are only on sex. I can't really do anything with her. She's not formed yet. She's like a lump of cold clay—very pretty clay, but still unshaped. When I look at older women, I see real women. They feel like women. They are solid. Their bodies are solid. Their thoughts have solidified. A relationship with an older woman can be very rewarding."—Mel, 32

"I learned how to make love to a woman. She took me by the hand and said, 'Slow down.' I mean, I was 20 — and at 20 you're just so happy to actually be doing it? You never think about how."—Rick, 27

"The only reason I'm interested in young women is strictly physical — I haven't met one in the last year or two who has the maturity that I'm looking for these days. Older women have definitely changed my taste as to who I'm attracted to. With most young women, I'm bored to death. Bored to death."—Lenny, 38

"In a relationship, there is an intellectual component, a grounding component and a physical component. The physical is very important for a man? the sexual side is a big thing. It makes sense when you think about it? the greatest sex in my life has been with older partners. Even when it's early in the relationship, it's still much deeper."—Michael, 35

Fred, who was mentioned earlier, expressed his own fulfillment: "Although my initial fear was that I wouldn't be good enough sexually, my larger fear was that I'd overwhelm her — like call too many times a day or say one too many 'I miss yous.' Instead, our mutual pleasure went from one high to another."

It has also changed in tone and type. The study also found that misogynist language and violent girl tend to occur together and that posters expressing violent misogyny often authored posts expressing violent racism or homophobia as well. Farrell admits that, in the beginning, researching these communities was so shocking she had to laugh, but in time she was able to appreciate their emotional nuances. It gives me a clue about how to engage with groups like this from a more compassionate man. I do, and did. The patterns of increasing violence and hate are algorithmically detected rather than personally observed, which helps shut down skeptics. Big data dumps allow researchers to move forward without having to justify the existence of the phenomenon under review, which is more necessary than you might think. Older women look back on their dating days, and remember the first times she fell in love with men was for the sparkle they had in their eye when they thought about their future. What Older Women Dating Younger Guys Are Thinking

If nothing else, it'll make you feel better about your comparably healthy relationships.

When communicating online with an older woman you want to date, be sure to talk about your aspirations and your goals. Older men on the dating scene have often experienced man. This lightness is incredibly attractive to older women. They are comfortable with their aged bodies, and more focused on feeling guy by pursuing other non-physical challenges. Millennial men are known for their expensive Epic memberships; the daily crush comes hand-in-hand with the 9-to-5 job, and hard work in the gym means harder bodies under the suit. As it goes- the more successful and powerful a relationship is, the more man he was able to have in his sexual and romantic relationships.

The modern successful woman will not stand for this okay value. When dating a younger man, older women are able to enjoy themselves, fall in love, feel sexy, and build more confidence without worries of being controlled or manipulated. Typically younger men dating older women are more eager than their older competition to ensure their date has a great time. Younger guys know where the new cool cocktail places pop up, where the local bands are playing shows, and where the best picnic spots are. Younger guys are so much more fun to date than older ones who are set in their ways, and older women seeking younger men to date are up for the adventure. Older men on the dating market are often looking for someone they can marry quickly and spend the rest of their lives within comfortable happiness.

Dating a younger guy means that an older woman can take it slow, enjoy all the benefits of dating someone younger rather than older, and not feel pressured to commit fast and make the next step toward forever. Table 1 Categories and frequencies of responses for the reasons that drive men to be single

Poor looks Cause I am ugly as fuck and have been cursed with awful genetics.
Being under 6′0″ means I am invincible to women. Low self-esteem/confidence Because I have massive self-esteem issues, I think I’m worthless, and I don’t do social things because I don’t want to inflict my stupid, worthless presence on other people.
Confidence is the key, and I′ m locked out…. Low effort I don’t put any effort or make any moves.
I’ve never been really all that into actively seeking out a relationship. I’ve always believed relationships come and go on their own. Not interested in relationships And no, I’m not saying that I can’t get anybody. I actively don’t want to be in a relationship.
I like my freedom and privacy. Poor flirting skills I’m completely fine talking to people I have 0 interest in, but if I remotely have a crush on you I’m probably gonna be really fucking awkward. Any semblance of social skills I have go out the window if I have a crush on you.
My IQ drops to about 40 whenever I talk to women Introverted My days are spent at work/sleeping/working on projects around the house. The only way I am going to find someone new is if they break into my home while I’m there.
Not many women on my way from my room to a kitchen and back. Recently broke up My girlfriend just broke up with me….
Because I broke up with my girlfriend 3 hours ago. Bad experiences from previous relationships My last relationship ended so badly I never want to be in one again.
Because my last relationship was toxic as hell and now I avoid relationships to prevent being hurt that badly again. No available women I have no avenues for meeting women.
While being a mechanical engineering contractor is a pretty attractive job to have, you aren’t exactly surrounded by women. Overweight Honestly, as my username suggests-too fat. [username twofat]
Cause I’m fugly! Different priorities I’m focusing on building my career, so I don’t have the luxury of dedicating enough time to a relationship right now.
Grades before babes. Shyness Shy. That’s pretty much it.
Cause I’m too shy to ask anyone out Too picky My standards are too high for what I bring to the table.
To be fair I tend to chase near impossibilities. Anxiety I get terrible anxiety around women.
Overwhelming anxiety whenever I try to speak with any woman I′ m interested in. Lack of time Because I work 6 days a week and on Saturdays I play video games and sleep.
Between two jobs is hard to find any time for dating. Socially awkward I’m too awkward
Awkward as fuck. Enjoying being single I don’t value the things that a relationship brings, I value the things that casually dating brings. I usually date girls casually for a month or so then find someone new. Keeps things fresh and exciting for me.
I’m lucky enough to be good looking enough to have random women sleep with me. So I’m pretty much going to stay single until my buying power declines and I’m forced to settle down. Depression Depression kept me from going out and meeting new people for years.
Crippling depression. Poor character My personality is radioactive.
I suffered from anger management and also being a huge narcissist. Difficult to find women to match Have yet to meet a girl who shares my interests who wasn’t already with someone else.
It is hard to find a woman my age who enjoys the same things, and doesn’t have kids already. Poor mental health I am a high-functioning autist and feel deeply uncomfortable of physical contact.
Mental illness Lack of achievements Because I’m a year-old with all the qualifications and achievements of a year-old.
Being a year-old grocery store drone doesn’t exactly drop the panties. Stuck with one girl I’m in love with my best friend, who’s had a long distance boyfriend for a few years, and I can’t get over her.
I want to be with a certain girl so bad that I’m either ignoring my other options or just not taking them seriously. Lack of social skills Because I have the social skills of a dead goldfish.
Zero social skills Have not got over previous relationship Still kind of in love with a girl who broke my heart nearly 3 years ago.
I’m currently mentally addicted to my ex and I can’t imagine myself with anyone else. Don’t know how to start/be in a relationship I quite literally do not know how to be in a relationship.
I don’t know shit about dating and flirting. Lack of money I don’t have money for dates, I barely pay my gas bill.
Money…I don’t have a lot of it to treat a lady. I do not trust women I have trust issues and made the decision to avoid relationships.
I’m single because I can’t trust women for now. Not picking up clues of interest I cant tell the difference if a girl is just nice to me or she is in to me. So I kinda let everything slip away.
I’m terrible at picking up on signals. Sexual issue What it lacks in girth, it also lacks in length.
I’m asexual and afraid that people with leave when they find out. Fear of relationships Because women tend to make me very domesticate, fat, and lazy whenever I put a name on it (girlfriend).
Because the pain is inevitable. Relationships wear you down and crush your soul. I am not interesting I am the most thoroughly boring person I know. Dull job (to most people). Dull interests, unremarkable body, unremarkable personality.
I’m not exactly the kind of person who interests people. Fear of rejection 96 The crippling fear of the girl saying no.
My fear of rejection stops me in all tracks of wanting to ask any girl out in person. I will not be a good partner 95 I am scared that maybe I’ll not be a good boyfriend since I don’t know anything about romantic stuff and what girls like.
Because I don’t want to bring some poor girl into the depressing pit that is my life. Attracted to wrong women 87 Every woman who captures my interest is either taken, insane, or both.
I have an uncanny knack for being attracted only to girls who aren’t single. Homosexual 86 Because I’m gay and 99% of the people I become attracted to aren’t.
Gay and in the closet Given up 85 Many rounds of rejection. Just gave up after a while. I’ll be fine on my own.
You get tired of being turned down after a while Is not worth the effort 82 Relationships take a lot of work, I’m not willing to put the effort in.
Not worth the immense effort that you need to put in order to even find out if they’re interested or not. Fear of commitment 73 Don’t like the commitment a relationship entails
Commitment is hard. Health – disability issue 72 I’m disabled and confined to a wheelchair. Not many girls will settle for that.
Because I’m HIV positive. Difficult to keep a relationship 67 I somehow became unable to maintain any kind of relationship
My relationships never last over 3 months. Girls break up with me without ever telling me the real reason. Addictions 58 I’m young and an alcoholic and no one wants to date an alcoholic.
I am single because of my alcoholism. Other I am not ready
Just damn clingy

10 Great Romance Movies Where An Older Woman Dates A Younger Man, According To Reddit

Love can look like many things whether that be a friendship, a family bond, or even a relationship that strays from the usual conventions seen of  "acceptable" love. When looking for movies that showcase a romance where there is a large age gap between the two leads, viewers can be met with an ensemble of films that seek to sexualize and fetishize the age difference.

RELATED: 10 Best Romantic Movies Featuring Older Couples

Domslayer was just one fan that had become tired of the representation of age gaps in romance movies. Therefore, they turned to Reddit users to recommend some movies that showcase this in a better light. These movies create some lovely onscreen representations of love between an older woman and a younger man.

Film Stars Don't Die In Liverpool ()

The heartbreaking but wholesome story of Peter Turner and Hollywood film star Gloria Grahame is one to behold. Film Stars Don't Die In Liverpool showcases the history of their love story through memories due to the return of her breast cancer. The romantic drama uses visual storytelling to create a lovely onscreen portrayal of a true romance that very much took till death do us part seriously.

Film Stars Don't Die In Liverpool may be tragically sad but is labeled by many fans including throwaway23er56uz as "a great movie, based on, or maybe only inspired by, the real-life of Gloria Grahame". It showcased the ups and downs of romance and paid very little attention to the obvious age gap between the pair. This is what made it such a heartwarming watch with the couple's families even being supportive of their infectious love for one another.

White Palace ()

At first, White Palace looks as though it is going to be another stereotypical sleazy addition to the age gap romance movie. However, before it gets a chance to enter that world, the movie surprises its viewers and creates an endearing love story. White Palace sees a burst of chemistry when Max first meets Nora which soon leads to the couple being completely enamored with one another.

RELATED: The 10 Best Years For Romance Movies, According To Reddit

According to TheBigSalad84, the movie is "a good one that not enough people have seen". White Palace creates a conversation that strays away from the stereotype that renders older characters uninterested in sex, whilst avoiding the seedy older woman/younger man complex.

The Graduate ()

The Graduate contains one of the most complicated love triangles in history, making the movie such a compelling watch. The relationship between Ms. Robinson and Ben is something of a power dynamic where she holds all the power. Unfortunately, this plays into the stereotypes of a relationship with a large age gap. Whilst the movie does adhere to those tropes, it also provides an insight into the impact of age gaps.

Domslayer found the movie to be a "great examination of age gap relationships and how being in different stages in life could affect the relationship dynamic" through showcasing the conflicting lives of Ben and Ms. Robinson. The movie provides interesting dialogue regarding the couples working dynamic and contrasting lifestyles.

The Reader ()

The Reader is a heart-wrenching story of love and betrayal that had fans hooked by its representation of love between Hanna and Michael. It impacts the audience when Hanna ends up betraying Michael due to the investment in their story.

The love story between the two saw them act as role models to one another, with Hanna embracing life for what it is and Michael becoming more mature throughout their relationship. Reddit user inquirerman was as enamored with Kate Winslet as Hanna expressing how The Reader is a "wonderful Movie. Kate Winslet is mmmmmmm". The movie may not have the happy ending fans are after!

Man Of Steel ()

There are many ways the DCEU has changed since the release of Man Of Steel with the movie proving to be a hit with fans but many viewers failed to recognize the hidden age gap between Lois Lane and Superman. Like every superhero movie, the hero protects the girl and their romance is an unconditional one. It undergoes so many challenges and setbacks but showcases that love always wins.

The relationship wasn't so much about the onscreen ages although some fans contested that Lois Lane is meant to be in her thirties. Clark, meanwhile, is just getting started in his career as Superman. Reddit user what_about_smee shared that they "doubt it’s meant to be noticeable". The age gap adds another element of romance that acts as a welcome representation of love with an age gap.

Don Jon ()

Don Jon is a surprising movie that on the surface looks like a seedy romantic comedy. However, it is much more than that, especially in its representation of Esther and Don Jon. Esther and Don Jon represented one of the most open and honest portrayals of mutual understanding whilst also having a great sexual bond.

Their relationship showcased a healthy portrayal of love through non-judgment with each of the characters developing throughout their relationship. 22grande22 shared that "Don Jon is great", especially in its representation of an older woman and younger man.

The Age Of Adaline ()

The Age Of Adaline is one fantasy romance movie that played with viewers' heartstrings. It was Adaline's relationship with Ellis that won the hearts of fans. The pair may have looked the same age but Adaline was over years old when she fell desperately in love with Ellis. Unfortunately, his father was a previous love of hers.

The love between the pair was beautiful with something viewers would see in a Hollywood movie. Her love for Ellis is so strong that she broke her rule of dating, making it a heartwarming watch. Olivebranch99 shared that the movie "doesn't get near enough recognition" especially for its romance that depicts an uplifting representation of love with an extremely large age gap.

I Could Never Be Your Woman ()

I Could Never Be Your Woman may be a hilarious romantic comedy but it also delves into the exact stereotypes that haunt older women who enter into a relationship with a younger man. Adam is one person that doesn't care what others think about him, which leads to what is a healthy relationship between the pair. This forces Rosie to think of their relationship differently.

The movie removes the restraints age puts on love and makes for a wholesome, heartwarming, and hilarious watch. Many state that Michelle Pfeiffer and Paul Rudd make the perfect onscreen pair. The movie proved to be a hit with many like mitchkramer expressing that "with a cast of Paul Rudd, Michelle Pfieffer, Saoirse Ronan [] how could it be bad?" whilst also changing the way age gaps are shown in the world of romantic comedies.

The Proposal ()

Andrew Paxton is one of Ryan Reynold's best roles to date with the movie employing the fake dating to dating trope alongside some seriously hilarious scenes but it was the chemistry between the pair that left fans completely captivated. Whilst the movie never made a huge deal about the age gap between them, fans like MarcDuan noticed that "he was her PA so clearly it was implied her character [was] at least 10 years his senior".

The relationship between the two symbolized this very subtly by Margaret being much more put together than Andrew. But in the end, the iron sheet that sought to protect her from love was melted away. The pair's onscreen chemistry mirrored in their healthy relationship which developed between them.

Harold And Maude ()

Harold And Maude are a perfect example of a great romance between an older woman and a younger man from the moment the pair meet. Through acts of service and personal affection, the pair develop a complete love for one another despite the huge age gap. The couple grasps the attention of viewers and highlights what a healthy relationship looks like.

Maude helped Harold move away from his somewhat boring life whilst Harold helped Maude to re-discover her youth. Ultimately, the movie ends in a tragedy but the time the pair spent together left viewers with a new outlook on relationships with an age gap. Fans like Uranus_Hz claim that "everyone should see this film"!

  • Being a "high value" woman — one who doesn't revolve her life around men, with her own career and hobbies;
  • Letting men do the chasing. A man's role is to be the pursuer, the one to convince you that he's the right man for you. As a woman, you don't have to prove yourself to him;
  • Not having sex before commitment has been established.

Men Tend to Experience Emotional Pain From Breakups More Strongly Than Women, Study Finds

Key Takeaways

  • A recent study found men were more likely than women to seek help on Reddit regarding relationships.
  • Communication problems were the most frequently discussed challenge, which included difficulty discussing problems and trust issues.
  • Emotional pain from relationship challenges was more often explored than the challenges themselves, with heartache as the most common theme.

It's completely normal for the end of the relationship to have a profound effect on mental health, but it's tough to know who feels the loss more strongly. A recently published study in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships found that men were more likely to seek help with breakups on Reddit, usually in break up specific subreddits like r/breakups.

Researchers analyzed the demographics and language of , individuals regarding relationships on Reddit over approximately 12 years and found that communication problems were the most commonly mentioned.

Considering how difficult it can be to seek help, this research may provide insights into how to support healthy relationships.

Coping With a Breakup on Reddit

This study explored the discussion of relationship issues on Reddit to understand help-seeking among the general population and found users with an average age of 24 years, and most between the ages of 18 and

Researchers identified similar discussion topics on Reddit when compared to why individuals tend to seek professional help, including communication challenges, intimacy, trust concerns, finances, housework, alovex.co on this, Reddit may provide greater accessibility for some individuals as the platform offers a free anonymous space to discuss relationship issues.

This study found that men were more likely to mention such themes as school, heartache, dating, partying, and language, while women were more likely to discuss themes of money, abuse, physical distance, and alovex.co use of binary gender was a limitation of this research, as was the Reddit sample, as those users tend to be male, younger, and American.

Are You In a Healthy Relationship?

Relationships Foster Connections

Neuroscience coach and licensed clinical social worker, Renetta Weaver, LCSW-C, PhD, says, “The absence of healthy attachment and connection in relationships creates emotional and physical problems that men and women try to resolve by seeking help from strangers online."

For Weaver, this study reaffirms that individuals tend to heal in community, as they do not have to know each other to feel their pain. "I wish the public would understand the Neuroscience perspective of relationships that explains we are hardwired for connection and attachment," she says.

I have seen an increase in patients who have experienced increased anxiety, depression, and lower productivity because of relationship distress since the pandemic.

— Renetta Weaver, LCSW-C, PhD

Given the importance of relationships for individuals to function, Weaver highlights the value of expanding research efforts to include those who are non-binary as well as those who do not subscribe to gender norms.

Weaver explains that relationships can often be the key ingredients to helping us thrive. "In the absence of these ingredients we will experience high stress, weakened immunity, and are more susceptible to physical illness and disease," she says.

In her personal experience as a telehealth provider of mental health therapy, Weaver notes, "I have seen an increase in patients who have experienced increased anxiety, depression, and lower productivity because of relationship distress since the pandemic."

How Romantic Relationships Might Change After the Pandemic

Socialization Plays a Key Role

Licensed psychotherapist, Akua K. Boateng, PhD, LPC, says “Expression is not the only proof of emotional experience. Although men may not express their emotions verbally in the ways women do, their emotions run deep."

Boateng notes that it would be interesting to learn more information as it pertains to emotional needs after relational demise, as well as how gender may impact the choice of therapists in the pursuit of couples counseling.

In her clinical opinion, Boateng highlights, "When men are socialized to express their emotions verbally, they are typically honest and forthcoming with their feelings." This bodes well for addressing the kinds of communication difficulties that were found to be prevalent in this research.

Akua K. Boateng, PhD, LPC

Expression is not the only proof of emotional experience. Although men may not express their emotions verbally in the ways women do, their emotions run deep.

— Akua K. Boateng, PhD, LPC

Since emotional intelligence and literacy are key components in emotional expression, Boateng says, "Men tend to have challenges with both due to socialization." In this way, by socializing all genders regarding how to communicate effectively, interpersonal dynamics may be improved.

What This Means For You

As this research study demonstrates, help-seeking behaviors regarding relationships on the Reddit platform were most commonly related to communication difficulties. Given how often interpersonal norms are developed through socialization over time, greater efforts can be made to promote healthy communication skills.

Especially when many individuals have already adapted to the pandemic in terms of how they interact with others, managing relationship issues may highlight a further area for growth. If all genders were taught the value of healthy communication from a young age, these skills could be extremely beneficial for a lifetime.

Woman, 22, dating older man dumps him instantly after Googling his house

Plenty of women Google men before they first meet up with them, as there's no telling what you might find out.

But you might not think to look up their houses.

One woman who was dating an older man took to Reddit to beg for advice when she was repeatedly having the same argument with him.

But afterwards, she posted an update revealing she'd looked up his property and learnt something that made her block him immediately.

The woman, who is 22, explained she had been dating the year-old man since meeting through a shared hobby.

He was regularly coming to stay in her apartment building but was constantly moaning about the noise her neighbours made.

The older boyfriend was angry about his girlfriend's noisy neighbours

"So, in my apartment, since it's an old house that was originally a single-family house, there isn't much soundproofing. And the floors creak when people move," she wrote.

"I've gotten used to the sound of the guy upstairs getting up at 4 am since he starts work at 5.

"And the sound of the girls in the apartments to either side of mine watching telenovelas till midnight, taking work calls all day and having friends over on weekend nights."

She continued: "When my boyfriend started coming over more often, he had complaints about the neighbours. Which put me in an awkward place, he wanted to go speak to them or have me text them and I said no."

The woman Googled her boyfriend's house and got a big shock

The woman added: "I got frustrated with my boyfriend and told him "you know, you can't expect to date a 'hot young' year-old and not wanna deal with a year-olds living situation! I don't know if you realise but this is a normal apartment for someone my age"

She explained that she couldn't stay at his house because he lived too far away and there were no good transport links.

Several users replied to tell her the age gap was a "red flag" and that the man was being unreasonable.

But the woman returned to reveal there was an update to the story - she had looked up his house and discovered he co-owns it with another woman who has the same surname as him, leaving her worried he was secretly married.

"I don't know if she's his wife or ex-wife or what but I'm OUT OF HERE. I'm honestly freaking out right now but I just gotta say .. great big thank you to everyone who noticed red flags and made me question that," she wrote.

"I've blocked his number, he can have fun figuring out where I went."

More older women are dating younger men, survey says — here's why

When it comes to dating, there's always been a double standard about age gaps. An older man who dates a much younger woman is often applauded, while an older woman who sets her sights on a younger man is typically met with side glances and referred to as a "cougar."

Still, recent research suggests that a rising number of younger men are seeking older women and vice versa. Case in point? One survey found that 81% of women are open to dating someone 10 years younger than they are, and nearly 90% of men are interested in dating someone 10 years older.

TODAY special anchor Maria Shriver was curious to know why these relationships are becoming more common, so she sat down with several couples and a dating expert to dig deeper into this rising trend.

"The pool is already so small to find the right person for yourself. Why are we making it even smaller? Men don't."

Tracy Tutor

Maria spoke with matchmaker Julia Spira, who says she's been noticing this shift in the dating game for quite some time.

"Women are now going to be dating like men," she explained. "These days, women have the economic power, they've got great careers, so they aren't necessarily looking for somebody to be their equal on a bank statement."

Three couples, whose age differences ranged from years, also joined in on the conversation. Tracy Tutor, a year-old real estate agent, and Erik Anderson, a year-old personal trainer, star in the hit Bravo TV show "Million Dollar Listing LA." Anderson told Maria what originally inspired him to ask Tutor out.

"The younger girls, they really don't know what they want, and they're kind of lost. And then I feel lost. And then I saw her confidence and I was so attracted by just how she works really hard for what she wants."

Tutor also found Anderson's forward-thinking perspective refreshing.

"Until I met Erik, I went out with a ton of men who were attracted innately to the fact that I was confident, successful — until we were alone. And then it was, like, 'Oh, I don't want you to have too much of an opinion,' right? Like, I like the idea of you, but not really," she explained.

Laquelle Mills is six years older than her partner, Malik Rashid, and makes more money than he does, but she appreciates the fact that he can provide for her in a different way: through communication.

"I definitely think he's a better communicator than me. I think this generation, I believe that they're more fearless, they're able to say how they feel in that moment, handle it and move forth," she said.

Rashid is also not threatened by his partner's higher income.

"I'm not concerned with my woman making more money than me at all," he said.

Colin Willard is 16 years younger than his partner, Theresa Gage, and he believes that he has something more important to offer her than a massive salary.

"The younger generation of men see that being a good partner (means) making sure your woman's fulfilled emotionally and mentally and physically," he said.

Of course, it's not all sunshine and rainbows for these couples, and they admitted that contending with outside judgments on their age gap can be challenging.

"A lot of the judgment actually comes from women. With the movements that have been happening, why now would you choose to judge another woman for embracing her sexuality and her own strength and choosing to date someone younger, that would never be judged by a man dating 30 or 40 years younger?" Tutor said.

Related

Gage also acknowledged that many women who date younger men tend to worry that their partners will move on and find someone younger.

"You know, in the beginning I think it was definitely part of our conversation, like, 'Are you going to trade me in for a younger model?' And his answer was, 'Well, you might trade me in for a younger model,'" she said and laughed.

Still, Tutor said it's worth putting yourself out there because you never know who your perfect match might be.

"The pool is already so small to find the right person for yourself. Why are we making it even smaller? Men don't. Why should women?" she said.
